March Madness

I put in a lot of training time over the last month. The approach I've been taking this year is significantly different than that of 2009's training. 2009 was a 'just run' mentality Vs. a 'run quality and cross train'. Comparing March 2010 to March 2009 is pretty crazy. There's substantially more time spent exercising, but the focus on quality miles vs the quantity of miles and the cross-training has made the training less monotonous and more enjoyable.

The font might be a little small to read, but blue is running, purple is strength training, pink is cycling and grey is 'other'.

El Cajon 20K

This was challenging, but super fun.

This race used to be included in the Rock 'n' Running Marathon Training program, but SDTC decided to eliminate it the year I started due to 'too many people getting injured. The course was just too tough' (at least that's what coach Paul said). With that statement and the course map and elevation as my only background of the course, I was pretty nervous. Approximately 100 runner's toed the line this morning and when the Race Director said "Go!" (that's right, no gun, no clanking of wooden planks, everyone was w/in earshot) and i got to experience 12.4 miles of el cajon. it was nice and while hilly, i think the biggest concern is the open roads. several times runners must cross the street w/ no road closures, just help from volunteers. i can see how this can get difficult w/ 500+ runners...probably more reason why SDTC excluded this from their program. anywayz ->
